We are excited to be holding the second meeting of the new Addiction NETGroup that will bring in national experts to teach the latest topics and best practices in this ever-evolving area of service. Many areas relevant to Jewish social service organizations will be addressed, including outreach and education, community member support, program development, treatment and support resources, new research findings, and agency policy.
Sharon Dornberg-Lee LCSW, Clinical Director of Community Services at CJE Seniorlife in Chicago, and Nina Henry CADC, LCPC, former Addiction Specialist at JCFS Chicago will be sharing their extensive experience with Addiction and Older Adults.
This session will highlight different types of addiction including substance and non-substance related addiction; metabolism and other body changes that impact addiction; shame/stigma and myths/misconceptions for older adults who misuse; characteristics of the different older adult populations vis a vis drug use; how addiction presents differently in older adults than other age groups, programming ideas, and best treatment approaches and resources.
