Financial Assistance Eligibility in Orthodox Communities
Our agencies always strive to provide culturally-informed service. When it comes to eligibility for financial assistance, can or should there be different guidelines that account for cultural norms and values? Does this lead to inequity between clients of different religious affiliations or observance levels?
Topics for discussion include: expectations to be in Kollel or support married children; stress of paying for yeshiva, seminary or camp; increased costs of kosher food or modest clothing; differentiating between basic needs and cultural preferences.
