Jewish Family Service of Clifton-Passaic staff spent the summer walking across the county. During the virtual walkathon JFS staff walked a combined 3,294 miles. The goal was to walk the distance from Jewish Family Services & Children’s Center of Clifton-Passaic to the JFS of Los Angeles, stopping at many other JFS agencies along the way. As they reached each of the 10 agencies on the route, JFS staff learned about the different services provided by that agency. This program was funded in part by the Horizon Health Literacy Grant to increase awareness about the impact of physical activity on mental health. In a survey at the end of the walkathon, staff reported that monitoring their physical activity and making healthier lifestyle choices improved their mental health. As they logged their miles each week, this program made them more mindful of how to adding physical exercise to their daily routine and they encouraged their clients to do the same. Congratulations to all of the participants in completing this fun, collaborative, and healthy initiative.
