Nonprofit Security Grant Program Announcement (FY 2018)

On Monday, May 21st the Secretary of Homeland Security announced the allocations for the Department’s competitive preparedness grant programs, including the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).

As you may know, JFNA’s Washington Office worked closely with Congress to increase NSGP funding this cycle from $25 million to $60 million with bi-partisan, bi-cameral support. Since the program’s inception in 2005, the Washington Office has led efforts to secure almost $270 million in NSGP funding, which has supported greater than 2,600 individual grants to date. A risk-based program, the predominate number of grants awarded have gone to secure Jewish communal agencies, including Federations and their beneficiary agencies, JCCs, schools, houses of worship, museums, and other at-risk institutions within and without the Jewish community.

This year, the Washington office further proposed, and Congress approved, the availability of additional, supplemental resources to the states to expand nonprofit security to communities that have not been previously served by the program.

Click here for initial details pertaining to the roll-out of the NSGP program, including the supplement grant opportunity. Over the next several days, the Washington Office will provide further guidance to assist interested parties planning to apply for the grant.

For all grant-related questions other than those pertaining to New York State, please contact me at Rob.Goldberg@JewishFederations.org, providing your Federation affiliation in the subject line and your complete contact information within the email.

For grant-related questions pertaining to New York State, please contact David Pollock, JCRC-NY, at pollockd@jcrcny.org.

Additionally, the Secure Community Network (SCN) may be able to offer a limited number of risk assessments during the grant application period. For related inquiries, please contact the SCN Duty Desk at DutyDesk@securecommunitynetwork.org, providing the name of your institution/s.

Many thanks to national and local partners, who helped bring about this opportunity for another year.
